The City of Waterloo  has completed a first draft of
a Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to establish an implementation strategy for a coordinated and integrated transportation system that will guide the decision making processes for the next 20 years or more. The study followed the requirement of the Environmental Assessment process and aligned strategically with the City of Waterloo “2007-2010 Strategic Plan” and the transportation objectives of the Official
Plan review.
Master Plan Strategy
As part of the master plan study, staff reviewed our existing transportation system and developed a strategy for improving the way we move people and goods through and around the city. The function and layout of the city has changed in recent years and the transportation system needs to align with this by moving towards a more sustainable transportation system – one that is less dependent on the auto.
Consultants IBI Group in conjunction with Stantec Consulting Limited have been retained by the city to develop this master plan.

Public Consultation Process
Engaging the general public was a major component of this study. Individuals, organizations and groups were encouraged to provide comments on this master plan study. The workplan included:
